I second the love for The American Scream (as well as Best Worst Movie).
I feel like the tracking of the catchy "I Sat By the Ocean" second on the album is Homme's tacit acknowledgement that "Keep Your Eyes Peeled" is kind of a difficult opener.
Yup, definitely their strongest work since Songs for the Deaf. For all the trouble they apparently had getting this done, it sounds remarkably relaxed and groovy. Probably the loosest feeling QUTSA album since R, actually.
I dunno, I've been loving Wood's work over on Ultimate X-Men, so I've been looking forward to this book. Still need to pick it up, though.
Coming from Big Ten country, I don't get the chance to root for teams in the baseball tournament much (although my alma mater Michigan State actually got in last year). Since I live in Houston, I've adopted Rice as my rooting interest. Go Owls!
Hell, I hadn't been to Niagara Falls in over a decade when I watched Wonderfalls and even I could tell it was shot on the Canadian side. I think in my mind I just decided it was taking place in Canada, which led to some cognitive dissonance when the Canadian smuggling plotline came in.
As well you should be! A once in a lifetime opportunity, squandered by your parents.
Thank you for being the only place that's mentioned the sales figures of Discovery in addition to gloating about how few records Human After All has sold. I was curious about that. Although apparently not curious enough to, say, look it up on Wikipedia.
That sounds about right.
The studios know that his movies still make money, which is why he keeps getting jobs. But they also know that his name is absolutely toxic with the general public at this point. So they downplayed his involvement in this movie as much as they possibly could.
Does it get more repetitive than "Feel Good Hit of the Summer"? That song kicks ass and it's literally a rhythm played on a single note for the whole song.
I sure did, didn't I? Oh well.
I can buy that. They certainly had a unique approach back then, I just wasn't all that into it, but I can see them figuring out a way to make it work as they've gone along.
I do love the last line a whole lot.
Just read Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation instead. Not only do you get Garfield, you also get Lincoln and McKinley! And less Bill O'Reilly.
It's a stage play, according to the article.
I gotta go with Baroness. But only because Crack the Skye and The Hunter have somewhat diluted Mastodon's brand. I still like those albums, just not as much as their earlier work. I'm not quite as into Kylesa, but I like Spiral Shadow and Static Tensions and need to get this new album.
Blood Ceremony? Single-handedly proving that flutes and metal don't really work together. But maybe they've improved since their first album.
Seeing them do "Tired Climb" with all three of them pounding away was a pretty awesome experience. Even if it was in 105 degree heat at Houston's Free Press Summerfest '11.
