I think I said that when I watched it. Also, "I don't quite get why this ended up on some critics' Best of 2012 lists." Nothing happens for 45 minutes, then something major happens, and then nothing else happens for another 45 minutes, but in a different way! Still, it was a pretty decent movie.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that the movie The Fall is just spectacular. Lee Pace is excellent, but Tarsem Singh's amazing cinematography is really the star of the film. There are so many bizarre and awesome real-world locations in that movie.

Reaper was indeed a lot of fun. At least when the writing wasn't being so, so lazy.

This weekend was Comicpalooza, Houston's fast-growing pop culture convention. Now in its 6th year, they're at the point where they're using more than half of the space in the very large George R. Brown Convention Center and they no longer have to share it with any other events.

I'm gonna be doing a review of the new QOTSA album, so I'm in the process of listening to it this week. So far I definitely like it better than Era Vulgaris and Lullabies to Paralyze, but even spending more time with it over the rest of the week isn't gonna move it ahead of Songs for the Deaf or R, in my book. Still,

Yeah, I'm a big BNL supporter. They were fun and funny and always put on a great live show back in the day.

The canyon of difference between the singing voices of Lagwagon's Joey Cape and No Use for a Name's Tony Sly makes your joke not work.

As a Red Wings fan, I seriously hope that nobody reminds the Blackhawks of that fact.

The weird thing is that this could be a legitimate comment from someone who graduated from high school from like '07 onward. Makes me feel old. Also reminds me that the only significant thing Daft Punk did between 2001-13 was their crazy pyramid live tour.

Something something Interstella 5555.

The idea of the signal to noise ratio hurting Wikileaks is also starting to apply to Alex Gibney and the sheer number of documentaries he puts out. When it takes most documentarians a good three years between films, one has to wonder how much "directing" Gibney is actually doing with his 2-3 docs per year. And how

Ignatiy is doing reviews for the A.V. Club now? *checks* Ah, I didn't read any of the handful of other reviews he's written so far.

Excellent job living up to your screen name!

Meanwhile, poor Tommy Stinson had to support himself by playing on things like the Puff Daddy hard rock remix of "All About the Benjamins" and in the new Guns'n'Roses.

@avclub-4bdef5fb6ba59b1bfe0db68275c452ab:disqus  Well played, sir.

For what it's worth, I first saw Spirited Away several months before its official release subbed in a packed anime room at a gaming convention (GenCon), and I immediately fell in love with it.

I agree. Spirited Away is my favorite but Nausicaa runs a close second. The manga is amazing and goes way deeper than the film, as well.

Because they had Chris Sanders (of Lilo and Stich fame) on the story and directing. Same reason The Croods was surprisingly effective.

I'm a teacher, so I always buy the dual version of movies I want to show at school, where I have no Blu-Ray player. That way I can watch the Blu-Ray at home but still have it for school.

Kiki's Delivery Service has a similar lack of conflict and also works somehow.
