Because that's how the film industry works right now. Promote the hell out of it, try to get a big opening week number and then promote the promote the number and get people to see it because everyone else is doing it. Optimally, you hold the film back from critics so you can get your number before reviews circulate.

I just saw a Styx concert video and, my god, De Young was so much cheesier than I remembered. But, JY was trying so hard to RAAAWWWKKKK that he was almost worse.

Another one where I missed the cultural references and still thought it was so funny that I had tears in my eyes. Really. … flat out the funniest scene I can recall in years.

I loved the Don Draper bit and didn't even connect the Trudie Campbell thing until reading it just now. I knew she was Trudie, but I just liked the impression and missed the meta part, which illustrates that it's funny all the same.

WHY WHY WHY
I lived in east Tennessee when this shit was popular, even though a lot of it was 5-10 years old at the time. It was ALL you heard on the radio. So, i left and went to Europe for twenty years. When I came back, the same radio stations were playing the same shit. Is this never going to end? Are my

yeah, I have a Pink Martini and Combustible Edison and love them both but I never knew what to call it. It's nice to have some more avenues to explore.

Seriously, that is a good question that i would love to hear an answer to. Do you guys pick something that you are already interested in to write these things? Do you listen to this sometimes? Or, do you just get assigned a topic a few weeks out and have to research it? Either way is interesting …. I'm just curious.

I just came from the movies and saw a trailer for "Get Him to the Greek." I guess he is going to play Aldus Snow again… I liked him a lot in Sarah Marshall, but that was a small dose ….

Host
I think I heard on an NPR interview that the producers of the Oscars originally wanted SBC to host. I thought that would've been brilliant, but after hearing this skit, maybe we dodged a bullet.

Humorless Fuck
I wish i could divorce the experience of entertainment from what I know of the people who make it. After I read 100 interviews of Cameron being an arrogant, humorless ass, I can't help but notice the distinct lack of humor (well, except for a couple lines in Aliens that were probably improvised) and the

m'bad. I will use my own c'trnctions.

Considering the ages of most of the voters, I fear you are right. But, I think, hope actually, the new system will make things more unpredictable. If Avatar gets a lot of first and last place votes and Basterds gets a lot of threes and fours, who knows? It's along shot I know but please allow me my four more days

I think it really depends on how funny it is. If the guys after you get going with an amusing thread, then it may stay. Or, if your firstie is really funny, it may stay. Otherwise …..

Is anyone else intrigued by the changes to the system this year? If I understand correctly, they are ranking everything 1-10 and getting points for each. That really opens up the possibilities for Hurt Locker and Avatar to split votes and for the third place (Basterds?) to sneak in. I also think that a film like

B borrowed his euphemisms? In the first place, from my time in the military, I can tell you that the language was one of the most inaccurate things about that movie so I doubt they did. Second, why are they HIS euphemisms? Who invents slang? Language in the military is pretty common from person to person and I

Look, they based it on characteristics that are common to everyone who does the job. Therefore, he gets no compensation, the guy had permission to follow a soldier around and he wrote about what he saw.

This is what I wanted to put up. I still remember seeing those in Singapore. I tried ice cream with durian on top, not too bad. It has such a bad reputation that I had to talk the waiter into giving it to me as he was positive I wouldn't like it.

Would you rather he did another Star trek flick? I think we are getting off easy …..

@net profits …. well-done sir!

Well, let's not forget that for the last few years everyone involved with Star trek has been running as fast as they can away from all those annoying, you know, IDEAS. Ham-handed ideas to be sure, but positive, original and inspiring.
