The main reason I wouldn't start with YLAOM is Lou Barlow screaming "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" on side 2 (I had it on cassette, an ancient technology). Poledo might not resonate right away either. I would want to work up to that.

Ear Bleeding Country is a pretty good place to start (skip the first song, Repulsion), and if you like it just work back to the full albums. If you can't bring yourself to buy a greatest hits album, then I would start with Bug. YLAOM is great but not where I would start.
