I was a real spelling nerd and placed 2nd in my regional bee. (I won't mention the word I went out on since it's still traumatic, but there were like 6 people who went out on 'tern', the arctic bird, and I was super cocky that these idiots didn't know it; nothing brings out the competitive instinct like a spelling

I liked Rock Center too. Apparently one of the reasons they launched it was because they realized that Dateline is now the Attractive Kidnapped Women/Chris Hansen show, and was staining NBC News' reputation. 60 Minutes is sometimes still good as well.

Yeah, they should at least string us along for a few weeks!

I guess they have done a good job of making us see Don as an asshole, but still… if Sylvia hadn't broken up with him at the end of the episode, it would be one of my least favourite episodes ever. There's only so much they can hammer that point home before the hammering drives you crazy.

Congratulations, hopefully someday soon we'll be seeing/hearing/reading you without even knowing it! Will you be at the mothership building or some other city?

I'd be interested to know how they play up the game on the NBC broadcast… I can't remember the last time there would have been American coverage of a game between two Canadian teams. Here I'm alternating between the English and the French feeds.

Well, it seems to be working now… thanks for fixing it seffina!
(If your reply was a reference to something it went over my head…)

Is the mobile website screwed up today for anyone else?

He gets it! It was Earth all along!

Yeah, it seemed pretty unlikely that anyone could get away with dropping 30,000 fake ballots at a single polling place. The show seems to be relying on our limitless cynicism about Chicago politics.

I think a better word for that would be "pretentious", in the sense of pretending to have interests for the sake of their social currency … though that usage is kind of non-standard and pretentious has also gotten way over-used as an all-purpose insult.

I love that 30 Rock is City's all-purpose pinch hitter. Canada really is the best!

"…that Canadian horse ballet, Cavalia. Larry King said it was the best show he's ever seen." Such a great, random line.

Fortunately us basement dwellers are also big 30 Rock fans, so we'll let it slide.

That one scene in the diner increased Mad Men's number of black actors by 500% alone.

Dante's Inferno!

Reading this Good Wife recap a week late, it's coincidental (and sad) that this point about vigilantism came up again with Reddit helping to misidentify suspects in the Boston bombings…

Strangely I saw an ad on NBC last night for Ready for Love… They're so incompetent they can't even cancel a show properly!

Sorry about that :( But April 19 is also the date of the first battles of the American Revolution, so it's not all bad (well, unless you're British I guess, which you may be judging from the cute Thursday Next reference … )
Either way, watching movies and eating caked in your pyjamas doesn't sound all bad!

Plus today's the 20th anniversary of Waco, and the 18th anniversary of the Oklahoma bombing… So maybe this is just a bad week every year.
