It's so bizarre that the biggest Somali populations in Canada and the US are in such frickin' cold places (Ottawa has the most here). Who knows why.

That reminds me of a good short story in the Best American series in 2012 with a black protagonist moving to the U.P. for a postdoc position….she feels lonely and isolated as the only black person around but grows attached to a woodsy type that brings her venison. Then again in the UP, maybe everyone's a woodsy type.
