I thought he was fighting for his originality, because they already did a blanket fort and he doesn't want it to be overdone.

I enjoyed this episode, but I see where Rabin is going here. Alerting the audience to your show's repetitiveness as a source of humor is a dangerous proposition, and it's done way too lightly and lazily here. Reviewers are more conscious to that, so the low grade is understandable.

For the whole end of that episode, I was mentally replacing Sokka's lines with "Holy shit, I just killed a guy" and everyone else's lines with "Holy shit, Sokka just killed a guy". Try it.

At first I was bothered by the cartoony steps the show was taking in this episode and tried to tell myself it was totally "out of character" for the show. But then I realized it isn't. Community can and will get away with any comedy style it wants.
