Bond should be able to break the odd code, here and there, considering he's a spy, and all. Especially one that's just a disguised map of his hometown.

Random unnecessary best friend is necessary, but don't expand her role. The Thanksgiving episode made too much of her, but it makes sense that Mindy would have someone she could talk to about whatever's going on in the episode.

I thought she sang rather nicely, myself. No Etta James, or anything, but serviceable.
And as for the gloss, parts of it should stay that way. Vegas in the 60's was very glossy. This show reminds me of Magic City, in that respect.

Those "bits of … how they did it," authentic or not, are part of what makes crime stories fun. Like the episode where someone started using dental cement to counterfeit casino chips. I dunno if that's authentic, but it certainly referred to Raymond Chandler's The High Window, one of my all-time favourite crime…

From episode to episode, a lot of characters will spin their wheels b/c the show is reluctant to fully embrace the old-vs-new issue about the future of the town. If they were to focus on that, this show could be great, and probably every character could have something to do.
