It's rare I disagree with anything on AV Club as strongly as I disagree on this one, but I've gotta say, way harsh Tai.

I definitely think the budget was stretched thin with the bigger order. The fight scenes and sets in the first half of the season, for example, are noticeably better than the ones later in the season, and the mid-season finale was considerably stronger than the actual season ender as a result.

Kenzi is the kind of character who calls him out on his moody bullshit, so their dynamic is much more fun. And Hale just brings a nice warmth and energy that punctures all the seriousness. I like Hale a lot, I wish they used him to do more than just keep telling us how brilliant Dyson is.

Yeah, and the review touched on it, but honestly the Dyson character is so grim and self serious sometimes he's almost a parody of that archetype.
