Yes, but I am no longer a teenaged girl. I want more from my fiction.

Agreed. I also thought The Fault in Our Stars was too sappy and pretentious. The only part that affected me at all was when Hazel's dad was explaining to her what it's like to worry about losing someone you love. As a parent, that really got me. Everything else was eye-roll-inducing, cheap pathos.

I enjoy many of the Brody-less parts of this show, and I think it can run for quite a while without bringing Brody back into the fold. The episode (#2?) with Carrie in a brown wig outfoxing a terrorist in the Beirut market was exciting and interesting without being so FLASH BANG BANG over-the-top.

Speltzer's maze seems so long ago. And yet, that ridiculous-looking mask and strobe light w/music combo should have been an early foreshadowing that this season would go down the tubes fast.

I know you weren't going after S3 in your initial post, but it reminded me that I frequently see S3 referenced as a poorer season. Just curious as to why the general Dexter viewership dislikes that season. I don't remember it especially well, but I do remember liking Jimmy Smits and his character.

Not even a debate, @avclub-18d60cfcc8c36c209948ce68fa2ef7a6:disqus . It's pretty much the exact oposite of Walking Dead and Dexter, which are both intros that I watch for music/ambiance-setting. Conversely, I fastforward through Homeland's intro with my eyes mostly closed, pretending it doesn't exist.

Can I get the abridged version of why people don't like season 3? I thought Jimmy Smits was great, and I liked his character alongside Dexter.

Yes, and get him to beg you to shoot him. Smart lady indeed.

This seems like a glaringly obvious plot hole from last week that, disappointingly, has not been addressed.
