Hard Candy is a dumbed down copy of Death and the Maiden without the very interesting political angle. Full agreement with the hate.

The thing is, I did not mind the mash up. Bone Tomahawk does something similar but in a much better, interesting and funny way.

Unfortunately, I have the same feeling but for completely different reasons. My problem with The Witch is that it is a deeply stupid movie. Its starts so promising, the reality of living in that world is recreated and then… Well, lets not speak about the ending. The first 80% were great but then it just went horribly

The Reader was a great but unfilmable book. The filmmakers did the best with what they had and the result was a medicire, well acted movie. There far more crimes against humanity in form of terrible Holocaust movies (does anyone remeber Jacob the Liar with Robin Williams?).

SOIAF the best fantasy books of all time? No way. I certainly like what Martin is trying to accomplish but the prose is too pedestrian (especially in the latter books) and he badly needs an editor (what does he have with food and banners?).

Well, let´s diasagree then. I consider EWS one of his lesser films. I would strongly suggest to read the Schnitzler novella. It is a great piece of literature.

The thing is, Nathan is full of shit on this. Just a week ago, there was a article about Quiz Show (even that was a diss on Redford)  which is one of the finest films of 90´s mainstream cinema. Redford has done a lot of good work (Ordinary People, River Runs Through It, The Horse Whisperer). His work is slow and old

idiotking: great comment.

With regard to Eyes wide Shut, it is actually a pretty straight forward adaption of the A. Schnitzler Traumnovelle which is basicaly about the emasculation of the husband after finding out that his wife has sexual desires that do not include him.

I personally think that a lot of the auteur theory is bullshit and your musings about the difference between this and art movies make you sound pretentious.
The choice to go for Hollywood naturalism in quiz Show is completely legitimate, especially with the subject of the movie. If you think that Quiz Show lacks

It is one of my favourite books of all time. Vian is an underrated writer. I do not know how well known he is in the US but to a lot of my friends (here in Slovakia) a lot of his books (especially the collection of short stories with the story named Ants) were a true revelation. Cynical, funny but at the same time

Danny Boyle is not a bad director but all his movies (apart from Shallow grave and Trainspotting) somwhow fall in pieces in the final act.

Maybe it is me then. I just feel that a lot of Soderbergh movies are lacking something. There is a neat story, there are good actors, interesting visuals but it is the case of less than the sum of its parts. Contagion, The Limey, Solaris felt the same way. However, Haywire was the worst of this bunch (by a margin). At

I would be disapointed. Haywire was terrible. Dull as dishwasher and a waste of a lot of acting talent (Gina Carano not included).

Well, there is a lot to disagree with. There is almost no diversity in  the  top 10 movies. Almost all of thema are cool, violent and ironic. And 9 of the 10 are American. Really? No extremely influental Dogme movies in to 10 (or even top 50)? Or anything from the Balkans (Underground from Emir Kusturica)? Ehm…

Actually I think that both of these movies should not be on the list. I would take Silence of the Lambs before Seven and leave The Limey altogether. Everything the Limey did had been done almost 30 years ago with Get Carter. And better.

I think the gritty handheld thing was the main weakness of the film. Apart from the non story. Or the terrible acting. Or lack of any kind of emotional nuance (the movie felt soooo one note). Yeah, I did not like the movie very much.
