I'm not going to gripe - it's an excellent interview as always.

Why can't Hollywood just give piles of money to Verhoven instead so he can make more movies?
I don't think the jokes were meant to be "gotten". I think partially they were just the kinds of non-sequitors that you see in the B-movies, comic books and pulp serials that the movie is an homage to. As well, they give the suggestion of a greater (extremely weird) world that the movie is only showing a glimpse of.
Whoever said "hey, John Lithgow - just do a Mussolini impersonation" should be given an Oscar. It is my favourite bat-shit performance of all time, Nick Cage can't even come close.
Fuck I love that line. Has to be in my top ten quotes in all of cinema.
My favourite is actually in the movie Billy Elliot. There's a quiet scene when Billy and his brother are going to sleep and Billy asks his brother "do you ever think about death?" and his brother instantly snaps back with a vicious "FUCK OFF!" The response is so completely out of scale to the question its just…
0. They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother …
A high point in an already perfect movie.
I'm a fan of his, but I'm not rabid about it.
I haven't seen this yet, but I think Miyazaki's genius is in his ability to manage to suggest horrors without diluting that beautiful sense of wonder. In Totoro, when Mei goes missing you see that everyone is worried, but what Miyazaki shows is the villagers in the background dragging a pond. That movie wouldn't…
Intellectually I can understand how his movies could not be someone's thing, but personally I start getting weepy as soon as the Studio Ghibli logo appears on screen.
I agree. There is plenty of great art that leaves me cold (all opera, for example). I can't imagine not loving Miyazaki.
It doesn't scan, but there's no use in brooding on it.
"David Cronenberg + gynaecological examinations" topped the list for some time, but another 25 years of not being a woman caused it to slip in the rankings, just below "a lifetime of struggle and pain, followed by dying alone".
David Cronenberg + surgical procedures = something that has now jumped to the top of the list of "my worst nightmares"
@Dikachu:disqus I hope I go to Gryphendorphine. I'll settle for Gas Huffingpuff.
Hey, I jst went to the address expecting to find William Katt to give him a piece of my mind. Boy was *I* surprised. And embarrassed.
Unlike baseball, which is just a bunch of guys standing around scratching their balls.
What would be the job of the Sorting Hat of Akron-Canton? Something about welfare eligibility?
The Cartrige Family has one of my favourite Homer quotes "Five days? But I'm mad now!"
