I have never been a huge fan of her books but I've always found her full of fascinating ideas.  If her speaking voice wasn't so grating I would listen to interviews of her all day.

Yeah, nothing at this point will stop me from seeing it on the big screen.  That he panned Pacific Rims's "tedious giganticism" helps, as I enjoyed the hell out of that movie.

*cough* Christopher Robin Milne *cough*

I hope so.  But I also kind of hope he's serious - I've read that he ends up hand checking all the animation himself, correcting frames and shit like that.  He's an old man and though his micromanaging makes for great art, the guy has earned himself a quiet retirement.

I was a teen there in the early/mid 80s.  Every broom closet seemed to be available as a performance space and everyone over the age of 12 was in a band.  Nobody was making any money (not even Greg Clark) but it was a truly incredible scene.

He's going away to his castle in the sky.  Or else he's going to hang out with Spanish hookers, I'm not sure which.

I just keep telling myself he isn't serious because I don't like the idea of there never being another Miyazaki movie again.

You know, I think they should start remaking all movies with their social commentary removed.  Even documentaries.  I say start with The Thin Blue Line - just add a few more explosions and gunfights.

Any by April Wine?

Not enough rock songs about collecting unemployment.

I read it as a disaffected teenager but it did not connect with me at all.  Probably a class thing.  And @avclub-2f1cc089e4dde35002ae99cb9542890b:disqus , I read Gatsby in high school - hated all the characters.

I had a grandfather who looked like a shorter, slightly overweight Sean Connery.  Cool guy, kind of badass - the epitome of the "dour Scot".

Now I'm imagining a remake of "Six Gun Justice" with Benedict taking over the roll of cowboy hero Don Mills.

Add her to the heap.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With trackless wastes were girdled round;
And there Tim Hortons' Timbits with lemon fills,
Where consumed with shitty-tasting coffee;
And here were fritters ancient as the hills,
And empty cups covering the greenery.

My uncle knew someone who's family name was Dick.  They named their daughter Rhoda.  They are terrible, terrible parents.

It looks like Tim Burton's Blade Runner
