It definitely depends on the material. For older movies (things actually shot on film) I think Blu-Ray looks "truer" and more cinematic, more like film, than any other format ever available. For newer stuff, shot digitally and with lots of CGI effects, I think Blu-Ray is actually too high-def. Images often look flat,

The "belly chainsaw" monster was Gigan, Megalon's partner in the tag team matchup against Godzilla and Jet Jaguar. Megalon was the giant bug, kind of like an armored cockroach.
