mewithoutyou: We'll be like Torches!

While Avatar's run time may work against it, word of mouth and audience ratings will likely go a long way to bringing in Titanic-like money.

I like most guitar rock, so there's a fair amount of Collective Soul and Creed played at chez iRandy's. I'm as proud a Canadian as the next guy, but dang, every Nickelback sounds just like their last one. I heard they put on a great show with lots of pyro, so that should count for something.

I must have phrased that lousily! Hey, I went expecting great special effects, some action and some sort of sci-fi take on the Dances With Wolves story. I got exactly what I was expecting.

Genre definitely DOES dictate quality, Atomic. Your expectations regarding dialogue or acting going into a horror film or a comedy are likely to be quite different than when you see a drama or a love story.

Wow!
Sorry, but there's no way this can possibly be a "C" movie. The 3D effect and CGI is spectacular, and the story is solid enough for what it is - a sci-fi adventure/morality tale. Only its length and some quibbles about the dialogue kept it from being an A+ in my books.

The 9.8 current average viewer rating at the Cinema Clock website tells me that the patrons are going home more than just a little satisfied. Yes, there are some comments about the plot, dialogue and run time, but they're overwhelmed by the comments about how good this movie looks, and what an experience it's been.

Disappointing
Kinda sad that neither Baroness or Mastodon managed to make the list. Crack the Skye, in particular, will be listened to around these parts for years to come.

Watchmen?
I totally understand why Watchmen didn't make the Best Films list, but should certainly make the "orphans" list. Super-faithful to one of the most cherished comics, with only a few wooden performances, and extended running time holding it back. I loved it, and the only folks who didn't like it, were

HP Sauce nailed it. I'd even say KBII was more fun than Basterds. Heck, even more fun than Basters, although that may be an "apples and oranges" kinda argument.

Damn right about Hot Fuzz, at least. I noticed that the comedy and horror categories didn't seem well represented.

Kinda Sad
Unfortunately, I've missed a great number of these films. Others - Children of Men and Royal Tenebaums in particular - I found to be very underwhelming. I'd throw Hurt Locker, District 9, Star Trek in as my favourites…what's the AV Club got against 2009, eh?

How 'bout Statham in Transporter? He freakin' nailed that role! Try and picture that movie without Jason's perfect performance. That's right. You can't.

The Hurt Locker was amazing - too bad it was released in such a scatter-brained fashion. Kinda like The Road - these may not be full-fledged mainstream films, but certainly should find a decent audience. Why not release them like any other film?

The main bad guy's use of "clustermug" was enough to make me hate him on the spot. I'm only about 200 pages in, but so far at least, "Under The Dome" rocks. Nice pace to the thing, for sure.

Where's The Douglas Coupland Love?!
My top 10 would include JPod in place of the poetic, but lame-plotted The Road.

DPA, ninjas splotch all the time. Heck Jackie Chan was a dribbler, too. Just give the old staff an extra shake or two next time.

We glorify the past when the future dries up. I agree with Puddles - I truly doubt that much (any?) of this music will stand the test of time.

Oskee Wee Wee/Oskee Waa Waa/Holey Mackinaw/Tigercats/Eat 'em/Raw! (OK, not until next season…but you just wait!)

Nice to see Monster Magnet mentioned above - too bad they never made the list. That's some nice, sludgy stuff there.
