I guess you could argue that whatever means were used to preserve Baltar's life and position in anticipation of the endgame was important to the divine/infinite string-puller, so - good or bad - it served the greater destiny of "mankind".

The Times Square flash-forward was a clever and interesting idea, but I don't think it worked. Maybe it was the execution. The robot-montage coupled with the Hendrix "Watchtower" was a mistake, at least in the way they presented it. As it ended up, it was too much of a "gotcha!" moment in what should be a…
As others have mentioned, the Rube Goldberg device has been woven into the fabric of the story from the start. Head Six says she's an angel of god and that Baltar is an instrument of god's will. The discovery of New Caprica, Crispy Earth, and Final Earth (Urantia, maybe?) were unbelievably coincidental - without a…
It's as optimistic as can be expected, I think. They could have had the fleet land, start building cities, and live "happily ever after" in their new paradise - knowing full well that the "this has all happened before" mantra means they'll destroy themselves. Instead, they find their new paradise and melt into the…
I think I understand the U.N.'s intent, and the show has tackled all sorts of relevant modern-day issues (it's one of the things that makes it so terrific), but the idea that an international quorum has to (or feels it has to) resort to referencing a television show to drive home its point makes me depressed.
Kobayashi Maru?
That background might be from the U.N. Yep, the United Nations is endorsing the show as a way to foster international peace, and the U.N. hosted some kind of panel discussion with Olmos and others. I love the show, but that's pretty ridiculous.
That makes sense, Croz. Good point. As you suggest, a better way to approach "power pop" (or any other stylistic label) is to focus on individual songs instead of artists or albums. But I guess you have to have some kind of categorization. Hmm. As per your example above, is Led Zeppelin metal, hard-rock,…
DVR Warning - Finale Running Long
Just discovered (courtesy of digitalbits) that tonight's finale will be 2 hours and 11 minutes, so if you're recording it, keep that in mind.
Croz - Matthew Sweet has no "power" behind the pop? Do the names Richard Lloyd and Robert Quine mean anything to you? Don't want to sound like a jerk, but you should give the best of the albums another listen.
Correction: The Replacements are THE rock band.
Matthew Sweet's "Kimi Ga Suki * Raifu" is probably his best after "Girlfriend". And Richard Lloyd is back on guitar..well, one of the guitars! A bit pricey (it was originally a Japan-only release), but worth every penny.
That would be…umm…"stake through the heart". Man, I'm hungry.
Zombie films (good ones, at least) work not only because they're bleak, but because the concept is absolutely terrifying. There's no steak-through-the-heart, no secret chant, no silver bullet, no religious talisman that can defeat a world of dead carnivores that multiply geometrically. If you're in an honest zombie…
And that's the proper role of the military - take orders from the civilian government and do your best. That was the moral downfall of the Pegasus: the military was the only authority in that case. I may be mistaken, but every time Galactica tried to assert martial law, things went south quickly.
Lee will be the next President/leader. And Helo would be the natural one to take the Adama role (but with a much smaller flagship, I guess…or maybe the Base Ship will be the new Galactica - we need to give that Cylon boat a name!).
It is amazing how something as simple as enjoying a one-hour weekly TV show has morphed into something even more entertaining. The show-runners get to have a broadcast platform for their vision, but are also able to slip the restrictions by having the full vision (subject to money and stuff, admittedly) presented on…
Interesting, magnus. The decision to put sports star Anders in a tub still has to be a clever way of referencing the Hybrid tub, though. A clever self-referential decision on somebody's part. They could have just had the interview take place in a car.
Re: Metropolis. They recently discovered a complete print (in bad shape) in Buenos Aires, and I think Kino is working on trying to clean up the previously missing footage for a future DVD release of the original cut.
Tron - Doesn't sound like Daniel will be mentioned again. Moore said that he thought it was a cool Cain and Abel idea for the Cavil-Ellen conflict and didn't think folks would read so much into it.
