I enjoyed Looper much more than I expected to.  Great directing, great performances and some powerful moments.   But I don't think you can give a writing award to a movie with that flawed a story.  You can have Bruce Willis make fun of it with a fun wisecrack about straws and get people to forget about it and have fun

Not a big Olyphant fan, but I always think of giving this show a real shot.  I did with Deadwood and it was rewarding.   And then I saw a character called Constable Bob played by Patton Oswalt.  This is going to take a lot to overcome.

They were never exonerated.  They even pled guilty to lesser criminal charges (though they say they did this only out of necessity and I would tend to agree).  There is a lack of evidence, but no evidence explicitly stating they weren't there.  The lack of DNA evidence is simply that… a lack of DNA evidence.  It

No, you can't go with your mom to Django.  We're going to Parental Guidance at 4:30!

They didn't think they were putting their lives on the line.  People are looking at this from a weird "It didn't work, so they should've tried X" angle.  Of course they should have, if you look at the results of what happened with hindsight.  I'm sure the characters would agree.

Because they could have got her away from Candie Land for next to nothing and humiliated and defeated the slave owner.

Because under the plan from Schultz, they would have got her for next to nothing and screwed over DiCaprio in the process.   And then the plan went bad.

The deification of them in certain quarters bothers me for this reason.   There shouldn't have been enough evidence to convict, but it isn't like they were exonerated through any sort of evidence and I get the feeling from reading his writings that Damian Echols is, at the least, a compulsive liar.

Because its an important book.  Of course too many of the "wrong people" know about it now so its overrated.

Not like this.  It would be a good springboard for an idea (like the pizza collar bomber), but this is actually using the name of two guys currently on death row for some pretty heinous acts.  And the guy Wahlberg is playing was already a career criminal before he got involved in this stuff, not a hefty Robin Hood.

If Nolan's Bane was based on Simone's Secret Six (I don't believe it was and would be surprised if the scriptwriters read an issue), than DC missed the boat by promoting it instead of all the old Chuck Dixon issues that involved Bane growing up in a prison, breaking the Batman and then going to work for Ras Al Ghul.
