I second Sloan as the Canadian Beatles, if only because their music is more obviously Beatlesque. Also, they spread around the songwriting and vocals like the Beatles did.

Good point, and one that I, as a Canadian, ought to have thought of. Yet, the likes of Mojo and Rolling Stone have dubbed CSNY the American Beatles. And they're still more American than The Band, as others have pointed out.
