Av Club is tightening the belt again. Splitting an Inventory into 3…
That law applies to all forms of art. Most books every year are shit, a few aren't, they make it on best-of lists. Most games every year are shit, a few aren't, etc. It's the bell curve.
Once again, big companies prove they have no understanding of human nature. Like Netflix, which keeps rolling out the shitty ideas. I swear these places are run by monkeys. "Hey guys, what if we charged more for our services and, get this, also made our customers split their credit card to two separate companies?"…
Cloud Atlas is one of my favorite books. It's simply blissful watching the stories fall together.
You can't read The Arrival. There are no words.
Be sure to rage against the dying of the light. And such.
Inherent Vice is simply amazing. Some people prefer Pynchon when he's doing Gravity's Rainbow-esque heightened bullshit, but I prefer an intense mystery being solved by a guy high out of his mind.
Inherent Vice is my favorite Pynchon book. It's not as complex or deep as Gravity's Rainbow, but it is more well-written than most tripe people write these days. Also, this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watc…
That's all Staples. Vaughn gives her complete creative control of that kind of thing.
That's why the comparisons to Star Wars are apt. Both just throw shit in your face and force you to accept it as commonplace in the universe they build.
Saga is amazing! Can't wait for August 14th. Goon Squad was delightful, I love how Egan plays with form. Have you read her tweet story, Black Box?
Just finished Vol 2 of Saga by Brian K. Vaughn. Also started Punk Rock Jesus. Both are excellent.
No Foo Fighters? "I Dont Owe You Anything."
At least someone mentioned Hannibal. "This is the single best salad I've ever had. Too bad to ruin it with all that meat."
I showed this movie to a few friends of mine who are big SF writers, and they were just yelling and screaming the whole time in awe. Turns out the SF writer's world is mostly completely separate from the SF film world. They had no idea you could be so ambiguous in a SF story. They especially liked the Walden bits.
I agree with @avclub-78c86aa171e1ab86948a7e10c471fc63:disqus there. Sometimes all that needs to happen in a narrative is an innovative way of telling. Like Memento, or Cloud Atlas. Taken straight, those narratives are pretty standard, even if well written. The extra layer of metaphor is what makes something good…
All I know is that he makes more money than any other entertainer in the world. Entertainer meaning in the broadest sense of the word. He makes more than Jay-Z.
You are so sad. People like you live sheltered lives. Do you know how much Tyler Perry makes a year? DO YOU?
