Good move. There are some cool aspects to the film but the story/dialogue is atrocious and people saying it is passable have really low standards.

I feel like you're probably correct.
Depends if youre familiar with the source material or not.
just testing these things out
One of the things that annoys me about this movie is, it purports this mantra of "we are not our past but our actions in the present define us". Yet the Major feels alienation and is unable to connect to the world around her, until she can discover who she is and where she comes from.
I feel like this movie actually has some interesting themes going along transgenderism. It seemed like an inversion of the transgender narrative. The movie does a good job of making us feel the claustrophobia and fear/aleination that the major feels towards her own(new) body. The scene with the prostitute and when…
I agree they didn't make it as shlocky as they good have, but it is the whole focus of the movie.
Hey remember that Super Competent Woman who commands the respect of her subordinates and her superiors, who utilizes and relies on her team's strengths in order to get the job done, who has years of experience in a profession she has chosen, who is physically intimidating while also being quietly brilliant in her…
I am more the '95 film over SAC, but I do enjoy SAC a fair amount. The production value of the '95 film outshines SAC and hell, it outshines this movie as well.
and yet he's still correct.
You're right. That's exactly what it is. It has the same thing but it doesn't in anyway convey beyond "how do i know who i am if i have amnesia?"
I just got back from seeing it. I felt most of the characters got short shrift. I love the Boss (his name escapes me right now) and I liked that he got some action in, but in the 95 film and SAC he is a very canny bureaucrat and damn intimidating at that, all of his inter-office skills are wiped away here. Togusa…
Agreed but after seeing this, you really appreciate the originals.
There are some cool things in the movie but the dialogue is a sin against god.
I just got back from seeing it and you hit the nail on the head. I will say this though, the movie does a good job of making you feel the claustophobia of being trapped in an alien body. It some ways the movie is actually really good at what I imagine a transgendered person may go through.
Just got back from seeing it, I will post a long rant later, going to get some rest now. If you're wondering if this movie is Lady Robocop, basically yes if Robocop did not have the clever satire, decent dialogue or a drop of self awareness for the cliches it was playing with. This movie is like Robocop and Blade…
Just saw it myself. Agree with the great production design but I don't see how the story was communicated much visually.

Getting stoned right now so I won't grumble so much when I get back here from the theater.
Agreed. The scene where she is on the boat looking at the crowds. The scene where everything slows down as she takes the helicopter to pursue the puppetmaster, all that shit is great.
