True. I suppose it lies in the execution then.

Good point. It could not have hurt to mix some of the old ones in as well. Like the weird three eyed dude.
Well, yeah its all cheesy but some is fun cheesy and some is roll your eyes cheesy (obviously totally subjective).
I remember that scene….don't really remember what the hell they said. I am sure they just reiterate what we just saw in the introduction. She's the daughter of the architect of the death star and she's been on her own since then. That's great and all but it is still murky character motivation. Why isn't she a…
I did like the random aliens in the background that the camera panned across too quickly.
Okay, that would have been kind of interesting if they didn't introduce her as a child who is the daughter of a deserter, who clearly has no love for the Empire and who is immediately adopted by an Anti-Empire militant. So when it cuts to her in a jail cell with Stormtrooper guards, your first thought is that she is…
…..Really? Wow. I didn't know that was a thing.
But wasn't she rebel the whole time? Just one doing her own thing? Isn't that why she was in an imperial prison or something?
Rogue One is kind of just as bad as TFA. The OT is the only decent films made out of all of this shit and even they aren't mind blowing (still fun as fuck and a hell of a good time, shit I can't complain about them)
I do give you the prequels had some cool planets and they did have good ship design as well as some other aspects that worked. Don't think I am letting TFA off the hook, it is just as bad as the Prequels (better acting and set design/costume though).
Its been years since I have seen ROTJ and I feel I should refrain from revisting it. I saw them all on VHS as a kid so I simply accepted them all as is.
I don't see how it is tying up loose ends exactly either. If they survived, people might complain "we never see them again!" Yeah? So what? they are off doing missions or are in the background and simply aren't on screen. Who cares?
Yeah, I feel that is more on Tommy Lee Jones. Carrey is a comedian and this is his first like kind of dramatic performance, he should be the designated ham and Jones should be the straight man in their duo
I watched a thing that they actually build the biggest stages that was several real city blocks for Burton's Gotham. That didn't stop it from looking like a movie set though.
Actually curious about this because I just don't know exactly how directors work. Wouldn't a director mostly hang back and let the quality actors do what they do? Like, if you're dealing with a bad actor and they are raging when the person is supposed to just be angry, you say "okay, tone it down, he isn't flipping…
You can remake it as a good movie too. I remember liking it but I hated Two-Face being a knock off Joker. I also didn't like how all the gangs were in two face guy uniforms. The world never felt real (also my problems with Batman Returns).
Yea but Batman Returns also had a terrible fucking script. Batman Forever had a good Jim Carrey performance (from what I remember when it came out, not sure if it holds up, don't really care either).
TBF to Lucas, we also have hindsight. Put me in for that task and well….shit I never wrote a script in my life, I would have fucked it up bad.
Maybe the snark isn't necessary but one of the reasons this annoyed me was because it acknowledged the prequels. Like, just have Vader on a Star Destroyer or something. They didn't need to do that nod to the prequels
Yeah, when they started dying off and it dawned on me that they were all going to die I realized the movie was a failure because I felt nothing for any of them.
