I was with you up until "hipster ironic" because…ugh.
As a black guy, I wasn't offended (though I didn't find it funny at all either). People really talk that way, and I love it. It's the same way that I love the way my Texan family talks. For whatever that's worth.
The hallmark of a great show -or at least a show that inspires unreasonable amounts of devotion- is that one fan's perfect episode can be another fans's most hated episode. This phenomenon is why I avoid discussions on Community.
Oooh. In on the ground floor. Sort of.
Everyone's gotta hate someone. Seriously. Find someone who doesn't have a blanket "I hate Y because they're all X" statement.
I've noticed this too. Give it time, though. TV is just now beginning to get past the gay stereotypes of yesteryear.
TCFA? That's not a strained acronym!
Yes, it's exclusively for keeping in touch with old friends and seeing what's going on with family and in my hometown. But the meme posts are quickly approaching "youtube comments" level of annoying.
It definitely lacks the resonance and nuance of their earlier work, such as I'M ON A BOAT and DICK IN A BOX.
@avclub-e46fa50c967edb3d8391cc2fa53f6c6f:disqus I teach math at a liberal arts oriented school (I'm posting this between classes, actually) and we're grappling with a lot of these curricular issues right now. I've been to umpteen workshops on defining learning goals for global citizens, and I've read the AACU's LEAP…
It's not science, it's statistics. The statistics don't lie, and I'm sure they're accurate. What they actually mean, however, is a different matter.
@avclub-e46fa50c967edb3d8391cc2fa53f6c6f:disqus "creating curricula that focus on being a cultural and global citizen rather than memorizing dates and facts"
Completely random: I was rewatching Bender's Big Score last night. I picked up all the Torgo references the first time around, but I don't think I'd ever made the Hall of the Screaming Skulls connection.
Some are alright, but they're definitely no MST3K.
"I'm different!"
The novelty rap boom of the late `00s is long since over, so it's easy to lump them together with other "fads of yesteryear." This, of course, ignores the fact they're actually pretty good and appear to genuinely care for and understand rap music.
As far as novelty music goes, I'm more of a Flight of the Conchords guy. But these guys are a close #2 just for Punch You in Your Jeans.
Oh, I know. I love all of them (except AC, which I'm lukewarm on). I'm just poking fun at @avclub-0de6dd3e9c3035563f798edb70fd1955:disqus 's rebellious rejection of all that "trust fund brat music"*.
It seems bizarre to me that there's now such an aggressive hate for "indie" music. Then again, my music taste hasn't evolved much since college, so maybe I'm the weird one?
