As the routine defender of fan-loathed characters and themes, I will say that I think Ezri is great and that the weak ending of S6 suggests that the writers wouldn't have found anything better to do in S7 than build up a new character while advancing the tokens in the main plot.

I… was born the year before TNG premiered. But I did grow up watching it, and I watched DS9 and Voyager in their entirety. (I remember watching the Voyager finale with my brother, screaming "woo! blow up the ship! die, Janeway, die!")
