He plays a schemer in a lot of roles.  He's got one of those faces.  A schemer's face.

I expect that if you remove all the parts of his personality that are obnoxious, you would also be removing what ultimately made him the man behind Community in the first place.  So, no, he wouldn't still be the showrunner.  The show wouldn't exist, and Dan Harmon would be writing jokes for Chuck Lorre.
