To your first point, Abbie's Mom felt the same way and didn't even make it through the first episode. He does mellow out quite a bit after the halfway point in the series, though.

I thought their tribute band was Feldman.
Pretty good - one of the characters (a British gangster, if I remember right) is only in the movie for a few minutes, but his other character (a crooked doctor) gets under your skin. The unpleasantness is a little over the top, but it works.
He played some nasty characters in Cloud Atlas.
