The outrageous stereotype stuff is kind of important in this case.  It's all about alternately pandering to and subverting the expectations of the townspeople.

This is one of those movies that finds you when you're watching TV on acid at 3 in the morning.  I first saw it on USA's 100% WEIRD program in like '92.  USA network used to have some damn cool late-night programming.  I hope they still do.

I got both Thriller and Metal Health tapes for my birthday that year.  It was a good birthday.

The Pilot handlers do some amazing work here.  He looks so unhappy after the arm-cut incident, it's pathetic.  You cut a guy's arm off, you really hurt his feelings.

My favorite was The Blasting Concept.  Not sure which volume, but it had the Meat Puppets playing Tumblin' Tumbleweeds.

Fuck all that, I'm doing the Kurosawa marathon while it lasts.  And fuck Thomas Edison.  Who the hell uses DC any more?  Wires as thick as your arm just to get power halfway across town, and horses getting electrocuted in the street.  What a dick.
