iTunes
Yer link's still not working.

I have always wanted to like them.
For some reason, though, I can never get past "Twin Cinema"; it's the only some I've listened to more than three times (and I've listened to it dozens).

M.I.A.
Arular tore its way into my brain like a happy virus; I'm eagerly anticipating my Kala infection. I may have to take a couple days off of work.

A's
Not everyone gets an A—I respect the AV Club for slapping movies and music down when they deserve it—but I don't think I've ever seen as many A's on a single slate as today.

Festivals
I've never been to the really big names, but the Columbus-area festivals I do attend (ComFest, the Dublin Irish Festival, Festival Latino, and so on) seem to get worse as they get more crowded and I get correspondingly older and less inclined to fight the crowds. After getting battered by moshing teens at a

Huh.
Seems to be a spate of Paris movies (Dand Paris, Two Days in Paris, Paris Je T'Aime) and a spate of revenge movies (this, the Jodie Foster one, the Kevin Bacon one) out right now. Now what we need is a Paris revenge movie to bring it all together. Descent Dans Paris or some such.

Aloe Blacc
Listening to the sample on iTunes, I heard a familiar line in "Blind World." I know one famous, obvious provenance of "paved paradise and put up a parking lot," but this isn't the first time I've heard it in a rap context. Where else have I come across it? Seriously, help!

Doc Rock
The album is a little more soul than afrobeat, in my opinion, but I can definitely hear a few echoes of Fela in other tracks than the sample above.

I'm with the wonton.
School of Rock was damn funny. Black's best where he can showcase his genuine, non-ironic love of cheesy hard rock music.

The only bullshit…
…is anyone telling you you're a fool not to like something, or to have missed something about it when you first saw it. There's no director who speaks to absolutely everyone, "serious critic" or "populist" or sacred cow slaughterer, no director who has made nothing but perfect films…

Paula Deen is the devil.
The other day, I caught part of her show. She was taste-testing butter, and made some poor grip stand still while she ate little buttered biscuits out of his hand, and eventually started licking his arm, I shit you not. That guy deserves some kind of award—or just a new job. The only thing

Not to get way off on the tangent, but.
I'm just not sure I understand what you mean by "annulled," Scott. Is it that China has turned a blind eye to repression as long as its investments are kept safe?

Oh, closed in less than a second.
That's what you get for making your site take over my screen, Carlos. Bye now.

I wanted to read this,
but I just can't rehash this fucking argument again. I'm sorry. Go back to your no doubt constructive and considered comments.

Psst.
Wrong album art.

One thing.
Is highly redundant. I should read entire posts before commenting. Sorry.

Two things.
One: this is why I'm terribly afraid to see Across the Universe. It looks like Taymor may have learned nothing, or some kind of negative lesson, from Sgt. Pepper.

Is it just me?
Or are a lot of comic authors writing first novels lately? I don't follow any comics closely, so it could well just be my ignorance.

I don't know, idiotking.
Phel made me laugh.

Lauryn's status cemented:
more of a recluse all the time. I had a daydream just now where she moved in with Salinger.
