Yep, the Second-Sex name drop wasn't particularly elegant, but the guys were so blindsided by it, I can't help but enjoy it. Sometimes I'm all for the simple pleasures. Why should feminists be above fanservice?

I think good lead performances can really save that kind of thing. I'm always up for a bit of escapist nonsense as long as there are some interesting/likeable characters in it. She was really good in Shame (should actually be able to land more high-prestige roles in a just world, to be honest) and he looks promising…
I don't know how I could give much credit for consistency, when the premises are so blatantly absurd and self-serving.
My only problem with him was the wig. I kinda like rat-faced apparently.
Nope, two times tall, lanky and decoratively cheekboned cancel each other out, you'd want to pair them with someone shorter and cuddlier for contrast. Obviously Martin Freeman was born to play Passepartout.
If I saw the remotest possibility of that, I would be still watching too.
I'm the fat girl audience, I felt pretty uncomfortably pandered to by that Katy Perry Song and even I found him disgusting for saying that.
I watched this with my brother and his friends (my suggestion) and I think that this might be the kind of film where the reactions of the audience can be more interesting than the film itself. My brother and I liked it well enough because we share a bit of a weakness for style over substance and were basically…
To be fair, the vampire in Being Human had a lot more to brood about, because he was quite a bit more messed up than Angel. I mean, Angel only ever did the worst stuff when he was without a soul - he basically had a good/evil button that could be switched on an off. With Mitchell it's quite a bit more mixed up. The…
It's a remarkably stupid movie, manipulative in such an inept way that it actually offends me, but I can't bring myself to hate it entirely because Ryan Gosling.
the other kid looks a bit like michael pitt. Very slashable, me thinks. I also saw angle wings somewhere in there. Curious to see what tumblr will make of this.
As someone whose emotional reaction to the show is fairly well captured by that Caitlin Moran quote, I can still see a lot of merit in Abigail's criticism (although I would often be somewhat less harsh; eg. I don't think that Bel showing the occasional moment of weakness negates the fact that she has repeatedly proven…

She's not just afraid for her own life, but also for the lives of the other showgirls (eg. Kiki) she might have to drag into the investigation in order to continue it.

I love the show as a romance, but I find your assessment of the professional aspect sadly accurate. I'm not a member of the cult of objectivity, but "The Hour"'s insistence that personal involvement makes not just for more dramatic story telling but also better journalism is rather dubious indeed.

Have you ever heard of tumblr?

I love the show because it's just so damn pretty and I'm heavily invested in all the soapy-aspects of it, but I also found that subplot extremly galling (although Brown's confrontation with the sneering fascist was indeed fun to watch). Thanks for articulating so precisely what was wrong with it.
