Most of those animated movies coast on prior knowledge of characters that haven't been introduced yet, and they don't make much money, relatively speaking. It's a nice idea but those movies, translated to live action, would get horrible reviews.

In the first case? Because it's fun to see what your friends would like you to believe in answer to your questions, especially if you're a teenager. I don't think it will ever stop being at least a little surprising to me that this is real. I remember being the right age for this show when it first showed up and thinking "Man, I can't believe other kids want to watch this cheap crap."

I guess… except the part about him doing a bad job was probably all in his head, that's the point. Not that it means he should have fled his own show.
