I've seen this sentiment elsewhere today. As Jordo says, Joss Whedon doesn't like Alien: Resurrection either.

There's a mental institution called Cheeseburger In Hell? That was an odd choice.

That's actually a muted trumpet rather than a saxophone, but yes it makes it a different song to the one on the album. I didn't realise they'd recorded the live version because they were unhappy with the original, I've always liked the way it sounded. Very wintry. The piano solo on Like Dylan in the Movies that sounds

Nine Songs by Michael Winterbottom. A friend of mine recommended that to someone because she was a fan of 24 Hour Party People, and hadn't read up on what his new film actually involved. Poor guy did not get a second date out of it…

There was also the Pamela Anderson remake of Casablanca that was all guns and stuff. Except that actually happened.

For me the most egregious recent example was the car chase at the beginning of Quantum of Solace where the Italian police describe the action over the radio with very specific reference to the types of car involved. They might as well have chipped in with some extra selling points and an rrp as well.

And his brother is Andrew McDonald, producer of Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and others. He seems to have transitioned from doing all of Danny Boyle's films to doing all of Alex Garland's films instead. Which I see now includes the upcoming Judge Dredd. Interesting.

The phantom menace being Hamlet's father, right? I suppose it works. The changes to the text really annoy me, though. Hamlet struck first!

If anyone's still reading, if you like any of the above-mentioned, you might like this, by Thomas Tallis:

I think that's a bit unfair on Gilliam. You can read one response in his 2006 interview here:

For what it's worth, Billy Bragg nicked the first two lines of "A New England" from Simon and Garfunkel's "Leaves That Are Green".

If Ferdinand had to get crocked, better for it to happen now and get Dawson on the plane than during the first match, but still, what now? Hope to make it through the group with Upson and save King for the knock-out matches? If it wasn't looking good before, it's dismal now.

Thirded on Cobra - I don't know the whole album that well, but "Come and Play in the Milky Night" appeared on an NME compilation around that time, and I've played it about a thousand times since then.

Fair enough then. I have heard it described as "Less culturally sensitive than a Carry On film"…

Regarding the burqa scene - was the fact that they were wearing expensive designer gear the reason that scene was ridiculous? Because that's fairly common in rich Arab countries. They weren't in Afghanistan, after all. But reviews I've read suggest the scene misfires for other reasons.

@The Information - that's an interesting point, which I pretty much agree with. But I wouldn't say it's because you take films more seriously than music. I think partly it's to do with how much energy you have to devote to one vs. the other (you can hear a Coldplay song for free for five minutes while doing something

In the early 2000s he was part of the squat-dwelling artistic scene in North London. A couple of friends of mine saw him around every so often. At the time it seemed like he'd really dropped out from film-making entirely.

It must be the Aquavit.
