I saw it as a teenager before I realized that films don't have to be an accurate portrayal of history, and I'm embarrassed to say it totally worked on me. My name is StopHodoring and I was mind-raped by Oliver Stone.
That's not alleged. He talks in a journal about being depressed for days after seeing it, and there's a noticeable change in his nuclear rhetoric and policy from then on.
There's a story in Time this week about polio's staying power. For all intents and purposes, it should join smallpox in the disease graveyard, but incidents like CIA operations disguised as vaccination programs keep it alive.
Adequate! Forgettable! Occasionally Regrettable!
Yup. I was listening to a podcast that mentioned Naomi Wolf's new book Vagina, and I thought to myself, "Well, I guess there's no more to say about globalization."
She was actually a successful governor before the nomination. While I refuse to believe she's as stupid as she's portrayed in the film, I absolutely believe she's intellectually incurious and probably wasn't in the habit of reading newspapers. All the fame went to her head and, four years later, she's pretty much…
In this modern age, the knowledge of how to remove your enemy from his horse when all you have is a flag and slow motion is indispensable.
I haven't seen it yet, but I assume Chris Pratt's character in Zero Dark Thirty serenades his fellow SEALs on the helicopter ride back as follows:
I'm always one week away from dropping this show, but its complete dismissal of alternative medicine is a feather in its cap. There's so much humor to get out of hacks peddling nonsense. Good on you, Kaling.
Ah, Drew. When you bang in your dress socks, it curses the relationship.
I'm still creeped out by all those spiders in your boobies.
It's Alf! He's back! In pog form.
When are they not melodramatic? NBC's default announcer is always using words like 'most' and 'ever' to describe next week's can't miss episode. Can't there be a medium between these kind of previews and the Mad Men style of closing doors and portentious statements devoid of context?
Hmm, what movie had me very excited at the beggining of the year with an incredible trailer, an acclaimed director revisiting his possibly best work, and a top-notch cast, but somehow managed to greatly disappoint me with the world's worst biologist, braindead characters, and a nonsensical plot? Ladies and gentlemen,…

@avclub-eac75edc18b8546c46893fe4b75ab995:disqus The difference-maker is Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin and access to HBO's stable of competent directors/larger budgets. Just as House of Lies, which I have never seen, should maybe be a great comedy, The Newsroom has little to no excuses why it's not a great drama.
