The way I always heard it was that traditional folkies were going to this run of shows and being shocked stupid by these electric guitars and such. Folk music had its own east-coast-west-coast thing going on for decades about whether or not you should be writing your own songs, let alone playing loud.

I'd listen to Weezer do their power-pop thing to some of the stuff on Loaded. Not so much the earlier material.

Poking my head in for this, yeah. Love love love this movie. I think I might take Half An Animal's advice and set up a screening with my friends this New Year's.

I'd disagree—-there's some serious head-nodders in his back catalogue, especially when he hits that double-time flow on tracks like "11:35" and "Rickety Rackety" and such. It turns the relatively spare production into something exciting. Lately I've been bullish on that ridiculous electro pastiche in "Breakdance…

I would listen to El sampling the fuck out of that electronic shit in Toccata, maybe pulling the loud instrumental bits from Jerusalem for an intro/bridge kind of thing.

@avclub-9ff7c9eb9d37f434db778f59178012da:disqus - I'm starting to get into Up, slowly (it's probably my girlfriend's favorite, where I'm more of a GUITARS GUITARS GUITARS kind of guy), but Fables never really connected with me in the same way the albums on either side of it in the chronology did. I should probably…
Actually, Monster is my favorite R.E.M. record, and Kenneth one of my favorite singles, and I've got a huge emotional attachment to it—-but that's because of when and where I was at the time (teenagerhood, just starting to explore the world of loud guitars and murky lyrics). It's not so much you had to be there, but…
