What does it say that the comments on this thread have 75% less snark than usual? Apparently only Wes Anderson can cause AV Club commentators to stop bullshitting and making stupid jokes..

It makes sense that Beck is involved with a "Station to Station" tour, because this sounds a bit like what that Bowie album might have sounded like had it been made in 2013. I'm so impressed that Beck has been in the music business for as long as he has, and continued to evolve in interesting directions.
Jolie Holland's cover from a decade ago is endlessly better:

See my response above. It's the sublime ridiculousness of this that takes it to a new level. Before this, most things mock-able about Brooklyn are also mock-able about Portland, San Francisco, etc.
Actually, I have been there. My comment is not a "Brooklyn sucks" comment. My point is that something so sublimely ridiculous as this can be viewed as some sort of turning point, at least enough to make an innocuous joke about it, which is the whole point of the "jumping the shark" idea.
Brooklyn just jumped the shark. Get out while you can.
I agree 100%. More broadly, I think people
should just make art and not get worked up over copying unless it
really is a wholesale appropriation (which Thicke's song plainly is
not).
Her other stuff is incredibly boring, so trying to weird up her music (as opposed to her persona) is probably a good idea, but, wow, this is really terrible.
I agree that the content is pretty silly coming from Lana del Rey, but I actually like the melody and enjoy the song. Funny that no one is talking about it on that level. I find her music a lot more interesting than Lady Gaga's, that's for sure. Plus, it seems like there's a lot more back story than I know about,…
Actually, I know a lot of 8 year olds, including my son, who love reading Calvin & Hobbes. My son probably wouldn't recognize the decal, but he'd tell you Calvin & Hobbes is his favorite comic strip. So, you don't need to worry about the legacy. This stuff is timeless and passed down, generation to generation.
This doesn't exactly read like a "B" review; the review itself sounds more positive than the rating. I'd be curious to know how Samsara compares to the "classic" Baraka (which I love). Baraka also has occasional cheesiness, which is the only flaw of Samsara identified in the review. I guess I'll just have to decide…

My prediction: Not only will this be lame overall, but none of these covers will be half as good as Yo La Tengo's version of "Dreams": http://www.youtube.com/watc…

If you're not interested, then don't read it. Simple.
A pretty boring selection from the options the AV Club gave us. Too bad people just vote for the most famous songs without considering whether they would be interesting raw materials for covers.
I think it was just rejected for lameness, but since that isn't an official basis for rejecting a video they came out with the adult content nonsense…
This one actually makes you watch the ad before telling you the trailer isn't available. Now THAT's evil.
Maybe the AV Club should stop wasting all of our time with this coming distractions feature if it doesn't have reason to believe the trailer will stay up for more than a few minutes.
I'm relieved to see he isn't actually playing a Mexican-American! (From the linked article: "Based on Schneider’s real-life experiences, ¡Rob! stars the
actor as a lifelong bachelor who just married into a tight-knit
Mexican-American family.")
