I do actually legitimately like Ex, but I think it's only 'cause I get to drink it once or twice a year (not living in Canada) It is a solid mass-market beer, me thinks, at least compared to American crap. And it has 5% alcohol content, so it's not quite so wussy as American beers. But still, I can't argue that

    Preferences
Beers include: Pacifico, Molson Export, Creemore (lager), Labatt 50, Harpoon IPA, Longtrail Ale. When just drinking to keep a buzz, I'll do PBR or High Life - or Narrangansett or Schlitz if they're available. I've also taken a bit of a liking to the large cans of lager they've been selling at Trader

And here I was just gonna give them respect for noting the awesomeness of The New World. Fantastic fucking movie.

Very good call, also, on the sniper scene in Hurt Locker. Holy shit that was intense.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the reason why there's no mention of those famous scenes from Mulholland Drive or There Will Be Blood is 'cause those movies might just feature on the overall "best of" list. Or something.

I fucking love Death Proof. Fantastic film.

    Awesome
I'm loving the fault in "the most . . . read" system that is allowing me to easily access all these old reviews. Thanks, archives!

Scratch that. Definitely has a publication date in the 1990s.

    Guns, Germs, and Steel
Que? Where in de hell is Guns, Germs, and Steel? To my mind, one of the, if not the, finest syntheses of scientific ideas ever written for the layman. And certainly fookin' better than Freakonomics. I cannot recommend Jared Diamond's book enough.

    Fascinating
Well, I've just spent a great deal of time reading most of the above comments. And it has been a pretty goddamned interesting discussion. Leaving me with the following:

    Well put, hatin.

    Fascinating
I'd forgotten all about these discussions and criticisms of things. I was trying to remember what this site was like back in the day. I took a stroll through the wonders of the Way Back Machine, which was cool. But it's really nice to see what folks thought of the site in one of its previous

Spot on. I realized about halfway through the film that I was watching an unauthorized adoption of Grand Theft Auto for the screen.

    Fantastic
Love this interview. I didn't know that much about him before - I only knew him from his film roles and Deadwood. But he's a helluva interesting guy. And I love the cryptic end note.

    Fucking love Melville
I do love his shit. Bob Le Flambeur is still my favorite of his, but I just watched this, and it is fucking great. A rating for it.

    Easy Rider articles
    Hey Keith,

    Great stuff
Saw this last night for the first time (watch instantly on Netflix), and it was indeed quite good. I thought the Mamet style worked well here.

I absolutely adore the strip, but I have not gone back and read Watterson's comments in the 10th Anniversary book after seeing them that first time. His commentary there, in fact, is one first things that comes to mind when I think about artists who shouldn't talk about their own work. Watterson castigates Calvin as

    A selection
As I, like Claire, think this is a great Q&A from which I can get a lot of new songs, lemme share some of mine own (or at least some which have not yet been mentioned):

    Huzzah!
