I don't know that it's reasonable to really assign blame to any one band. KoRn are probably most directly responsible, but all of those bands contributed, as did others. KoRn used to cite Mr. Bungle as a big influence. KoRn also weren't such a bad band. Not something I find myself going back to listen to, but not so

I can't be the only one here who really loves that This American Life piece where Sarah Vowell plays her song for Phil Collins, right?

I'd argue that this isn't punk, but only because nothing is punk, because punk is a meaningless concept and has been from its inception. The Sex Pistols were in part contrived by Malcolm McLaren, a businessman and their manager, after all. As a friend of mine is fond of pointing out, one of the best "punk" bands of

For what? Weeding out people who aren't interesting to discuss music with?

"punk"

On the one hand, ew this band is awful and I can't tell you how many annoying tweens and teens I saw walking around Hershey Park this summer wearing their shirts when I had the grave misfortune to go there on a day they were playing the stadium at night.

That was Dispatch, who sucked much more. And no, they had some dumb staged part of the show where they used audience applause to decide which version of the next song they were going to play, and it was a tie, so they picked someone in the front row to make the decision, except they also made fun of me while picking

One time I got made fun of from the stage by Guster at a show at my college, so at least you're not me.

I think it's more that they've pretty much given up on reviewing almost anything not already-established, tied to another project they've already hyped, and/or on a big indie label. Of the ones you listed, the only one not falling into one of those categories is Nao, and even she has ties to Jarvis Cocker and Pulp.

Weirdly, I never saw this movie until a year or so ago. I was a little too young for it when it first came out, and I'm the older sibling so there wasn't anyone the right age pushing to rent it on video. It really is a great, great movie.

I actually think they are both about equal. Overall the Cash version feels in some ways more "earned" or whatever, and it makes the wise choice of changing that dumb "crown of shit" line, but the Nine Inch Nails version, especially the version on And All That Could Have Been, always gives me chills when it gets to

This is pretty much exactly how I felt about Sunbather. It just made me want to listen to Jesu, mostly. And they really are unintentionally hilarious live, almost like if Urban Outfitters were a metal band.

I'm getting old, so I've found myself really getting into interior design. I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks.

Having spent a lot of time on Staten Island recently, I have to say that the constant shitting on it gets tiresome for me. Yeah, the interior kind of sucks, but the older neighborhoods are cool. Largest Sri Lankan population outside of Sri Lanka! Among other weird facts.

Pretty much the only thing I regularly 'podcast', and I use the term loosely, is streaming segments of a show on DC's NPR affiliate that is 4 hours of old-time radio. Which sometimes includes that show.

And that's to say nothing of the fact that the cookies scream when you bite them.

I Could Live in Hope [So dark. I get physically cold listening to this record. Reminds me of driving around on back country roads with a friend the winter after my first really serious relationship fell apart.]

Bill Kurtis is hilarious at live Whose Line tapings, and is an inspired choice, but he's also quite old.
