Agreed. And I feel like Patty still stands as the only true female antihero in a drama, which is pretty remarkable after all these years.

I can understand where you're coming from on both those issues, though I don't feel like they were ever going for a House-like portrayal with Patty. By the end of the first season, especially, that becomes clear. Though not as awful as Tony Soprano or Walter White, she's much closer to them. Vic Mackey might be a more…
Oh no! Why would you say Damages isn't a decent suggestion? At the very least, it's hard for me to understand how its first season isn't more highly regarded. As far as mysteries go, I don't think it could be done much better.
I honestly think it is. Laughed out loud six times in this one, which is at least three times as many as almost any comedy elicits from me.
Incest, minotaur sex, and a goat blood bath? What more can you ask for in a TV show? This is the batshit crazy I've been waiting for. Thank you Ryan Murphy, you sick bastard. No lower than an A-.
I hear you. There are just too freaking many quality shows and the problem multiplies with each year. You really would need a clone to live a healthy life with human contact and still watch them all, which brings up yet another good series - damn you Tatiana Maslany!
I'm curious about why you're hesitant to keep watching, especially given the way it ends.
I'd love that, though you have to wonder if Close would even want to come back to TV after doing a role as great as Patty Hewes. Tough act to follow.
Exactly, it's just as much about holding on to the subscribers they have at this point. Maintaining consistent subscription. Especially considering the fact that Netflix doesn't yet have original series premiering year round. So you had House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Arrested Development, and Orange is the New Black…
I'll be honest, I yelled "please let this mean zombie pigs" at the first sight of the pig. Then my mind went to Upstream Color.
I wouldn't go so far as to say we should ban flash forwards on TV. If done well, they can pack a remarkable punch. It's just clearly enormously difficult to get right and that Breaking Bad plane crash is one of the many examples. Just felt too far removed from the action. I'd still like shows to try though.
Oh no, trust me - he absolutely does not have a better grasp this time. I'd be stunned if anyone could discern any real logic to anything while watching this one. That said, it's still kind of a beautiful experience.
But you could argue that a small channel like this needs to do everything it can to get people to watch. And it would kinda be a shame not to advertise the premise, considering that's clearly what the show is going to be, at least starting from the second episode.
The point you raised is exactly my concern. Enlightened was completely ignored by the Emmys and we're at a point where there's so much quality television, I'm not optimistic they'll start recognizing it next year.
This show has a remarkable ability to elicit emotion without it feeling manufactured. It's just so damn perfectly calibrated. Now has easily become the half hour I most look forward to, which is why its awful ratings terrify me. I'm going to be heartbroken if it's cancelled, which I suspect is more likely than not at…
Perhaps it will be a werewolf, as Murphy and co. continue their mission to stuff every single element of horror in a season of television.

I love that in a season with a demon who very well may be the devil, not to mention the aliens and serial killer, we can still point to this doctor as the villain. I honestly didn't think they could top last season's absurdity, but they're well on the way.

So we now have aliens, the devil, mutants, a mad doctor and a serial killer all on the same premises, in one timeline or another. Just another episode of American Horror Story.
