It's not just Village Voice / Voice Media that's fallen, but all journalism, all print media has fallen.  I'm currently reading a book of articles about and interviews with Capt. Beefheart.  The quality of all the pieces is fairly high, including an article from "People" magazine.  Seems hard to believe but it's

If you haven't read the Mad Men essays on Tom & Lorenzo (http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/), go now.  Their discussions of "Mad Style"  examine the dynamics of the show based on its costume and set design.  It's film/tv criticism at its best.  You're in for a treat.
