I remember a critic at the time writing that Twin Peaks was the first show that really depicted grieving. There's lots of murder and death on television but this was the first program that spent time showing characters' grief, and that they didn't get over it by the next episode.

"Dark Green Energy" by Robyn Hitchcock certainly falls into this category (not an REM hater either).

Thank you, Man from the Future! Added to the list.

Not to mention the Woody Allen avatar.

I suspect it's the AVClub's equivalent of hazing: "Okay, newbies, you wanna write for us so bad? Then write about books!"

The Dark Side of Enlightenment sounds great. I hadn't heard of it before - thanks for mentioning.

I just started Crowley's essay collection In Other Words and it's great. Someone needs to get the rights and publish either a paperback or electronic version.

First of all, @avclub-706d9ec5bdcd8d3d0f472127da6bf446:disqus , GET BACK TO WORK! :)
Secondly, the impressionist narrator device that bothers you so much in Pynchon, that you see as evidence of him not taking any character's beliefs seriously, is one of the things that I love best about his work.  I think it is pretty

Ulysses, no matter what its faults, was not just Joyce "flipping everyone off."  Who was this person whose opinion you respected, Dermott from The Venture Bros?

Well, to be honest, there's something wrong with it.

The first half of ATD is great on a page by page basis but you'll wonder why you're reading it and what the point is.  Then, about halfway through the book it all just seems to click and you find yourself caring about the characters…and there's a lot of them to care

I know a number of people who love Mason & Dixon and critics like Laura Miller and Michiko Kakutani consider it his best, most mature work.

FF Woodycooks is also in their new show.  I would even say he was the highlight.

There's also a Chipmunks joke in their current show.

That line makes me laugh every time I read it, say it or think it.

Meow!  And true.

Apparently, the ratings for Girls dropped quite a bit in the second season because it didn't have Game Of Thrones as a lead in.  This is something I find both incredible and funny.

"Keep It Like A Secret" is great.  Nothing negative to say about it.  I always enjoy listening to it.

That's where I disagree with you. They're long songs all right, but I don't think they're bloated at all.  They move in a way that recalls great symphonies or jazz sets (yeah, pretentious, I know).  I never get bored listening to either track.  At a certain point I'll think "oh yeah, how long has this song been on?"

I saw "This Is The End" this weekend (yeah, I'm behind on my movies) and I feel the same way.  Some actors work better in supporting roles, as the best friend or comic relief.  It might be interesting to see them as a lead once or twice, but at some point, you can get fatigued seeing the same performance in different
