Jim Carrey playing a "showy" character? Holy shitballs.

It was absolutely a reference to it, and I wonder if the next part will deal with the sort of small-scale fallout Louis received after people who didn't know him but loved his airplane story saw his material (with cursing—the horror) and turned on him

Thanks ComradeQuestions, that confirms what I suspected. It was way too heavy handed, and made him sound like he was talking through a megaphone. Essentially, it made the character seem performative and comic, which we all know is Nolan was trying to remove from his take on the franchise.

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest there was something special about watching them and them alone, but they have great replay value and are good enough to stand alone.

I watched Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, and while I liked it, I felt like it failed to live up to the zany fun the titling implicitly suggested.

The voice-over really bugged me too, it was WAY too loud relative to other characters' voices, even though it was clear he was supposed to be speaking at the same level.

I'm sorry to say that this was a huge misstep. King David would have made the better vampire story.

I like them too, but I can't say I've seen much of their work. In my high school days they perfectly fit into my just-masturbated-and-Red-Shoe-Diaries-reruns-are-still-on-but-I-can't-go-again-yet-so-VH1-will-do time slot.

Tyler Perry is actually #1 if you account for the fact that Dr. Phil is basically one of his characters.
