It was just one of those things…

I've just begun watching The Wire and here I was thinking it was one of the best shows ever. Well I'm glad Rushdie's set me sraight on that. I won't be wasting anymore of my time on 'just another cop show'. Maybe I should re-watch Deadwood or catch up with Dexter instead?
Seriously, this is really a non-story. If

Any thoughts on the news that Matt Reeves may be directing the new TZ movie?

Hey, The Manchurian Candidate was on TV last night! You're right about it being trippy. The Chinese communists using agents posing as conservative right-wingers? The truly weird thing is that the movie satirizes McCarthyism while the plot actually validates McCarthy's paranoia.

Not to mention Antonioni.
And he's an Aussie!
(Taylor not Antonioni)

The original Outer Limits ran in 1963 when Tom Arnold was only 4 years old. And it was every bit as good as The Twilight Zone imo.

That's a great question. Has there ever been a US remake which has even come close to the foreign original? I mean, there must be a few examples but I'm racking my brains to find one.

This is really, really embarrassing to admit but I did take Binky's comment at face value. Now rereading it I can't understand how I missed the sarcasm. Maybe I'm suffering from brain damage or something.

We really do need a symbol or icon to denote irony or sarcasm or tongue-in-cheek comments. So many jokes get taken for serious.

Yeah, that's a hard one to call. He's killed his best friend, his illusions have all been shattered but he sort of dances down the road tooting on the harmonica. Maybe 'cynical' fits. I dunno, I'll have to ponder that one.
Here's a question: How many Altman films have happy endings?

Don't know why you'd think that was an unpopular opinion. Only a crazy person would disagree. Pandora's Box really is an amazing movie btw.

Yeah, Night Moves is a good one.
Disagree about McCabe. See my comment below.

I'm not sure what it says about me but I love almost all the movies mentioned above. Aside from Chinatown can't think of any serious omissions.
Of course nearly all film noirs end unhappily and while the most famous is probably Out of the Past the final shot of Criss Cross is pretty damn bleak.
On the subject of

As a fan of 30's screwball comedies, starring the likes of Carole Lombard, Claudette Colbert, Ginger Rogers, Myrna Loy, Jean Arthur, Irene Dunne and Jean Harlow, almost nothing about this makes any sense at all.
It seems that every generation has to make this discovery about being sexy and funny on its own. In The

Marilyn wasn't damaged?

The Truth About Cats & Dogs always bugged me. It's supposed to be a modern spin on Cyrano and yet Uma's the one with the humongous nose!

If Bay directed, the dialogue would be just as bad but Princess Leia would have much bigger boobs. And she'd wear that 'Return of the Jedi' costume from the word go.

She's on record as being in favour of gay marriage and doesn't believe in organized religion. So if she's a Republican she's a pretty strange one.

Sounds like the nominations for best picture at the next Oscars.

Gosh Darnit! Just once I'd like to see one of these comments before they're removed.
