I used to belong to an Evangelical church (they don't use or like that term, but they were definitely Evangelicals), and the distinction still confuses me. Our fellowship was relatively liberal (a significant number of lesbians were active in our group, and one of our bible study leaders was a heavy metal rocker) and

It's an excellent show for what it is… a low-budget X-Files clone that traffics in horror, humor, angst, and pretty faces. I love it. The show is lots of fun, at least when it isn't in angsty mode, and it can even be brilliant. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and often uses its meta episodes (which are great) to

Although I've always thought of it as a (good) X-Files clone, you make an excellent point. Supernatural is sort of an alternate version of the buddy adventures of Angel and Spike on the road…

I loved the book, too. I don't think you're missing anything by not seeing the movie. Indeed, it's better if you don't.

I guess it's all right. For me, it doesn't really capture the mystery and the sense of fragility and nowhere-ness that I loved in the book.

Oh, and I know they were already featured in the Inventory about awesome opening titles, but here are the awesome opening titles of Catch Me If You Can again: http://www.youtube.com/watc…

This really should be an entry in the AV Club's book vs film series… or is it on that already? Is that feature still continuing?

Spielberg is a manipulative storyteller of the first order, but goddamn if he isn't good at it. No way would I dismiss him. I would like him more if it weren't for the sentimentality he injects into so many pictures, that's my main issue with him… still, he's essential.

She can solve puzzles… she can solve crosswords… but will she ever solve THE MYSTERY OF THE HUMAN HEART?

It's hard to conceive of the outrageously silly "Cowboy Funk" ever offending anybody. Though I suppose it does portray an all-American cowboy type constantly failing to apprehend a Unabomber-like terrorist.

I recently met a ridiculously hot young lady who loves crossword puzzles, especially cryptic crosswords. And her mind is so jam-packed with curious trivia, she's like a walking encyclopedia. Be still my heart!

…with Charlie's Angels.

What a bummer.

I didn't grow up in the US, and I was only a student when I saw it, but I loved Office Space and I'd count it as a comedy classic. I am now living in Asia, and I know a good number of people here who love it as well. That said, my friends are all pretty Westernized.

WTF? Are you actually disparaging Nutella here? I… I… I can't wrap my mind around that.

It's not a horror movie, but Zodiac has one terrifying sequence, and another really tense, creepy scene. I don't know if you'll be scared by it, but the movie's worth watching anyway.
