I am a huge science fiction fan and reader, I love those authors as well, and I am also a big reader of science books… cosmology, particle physics, what have you. I love science.

That did seem blown out of proportion in Geisha's case. Wasn't much of the cast Japanese? And movies generally like to have marquee-name actors… I can't think of a Japanese actress who could be described that way back then.

She may have been hampered by having to act in English. But really, her "over the top" scenes were the only good parts of Geisha. I'd watch a whole movie of Gong Li in that mode.

I absolutely love Game of Thrones. But I don't think it should have won, because of this season's stupid Daenerys storyline. And the first half of Jon Snow's story was not great, either.

Ah, Memoirs Of A Geisha. A film that managed to make me hate Zhang Ziyi. A film that made me powerfully desire to see the protagonist humiliated and brought to ruin in the end… and of course, I was disappointed.

Yeah, get with the mob mentality, Nagle!

I've been to some of the places you're talking about (with bandits and whatnot). I didn't stay too long, but I've been there. They're not too bad. Obviously, things could be better.

About a Boy. Yes, really. It's been a while, so I don't even remember why I liked it so much and defended it from its haters (or meh-ers, more likely). Something about how its altered-from-the-book's ending was actually perfect in the way it called back to… oh god, I'm doing it again!

True. I don't feel the need to watch Dancer in the Dark again. Not because it destroyed me (it didn't, and I still loved it), but for the reasons that you stated.
