If hating superficial self-congratulatory pseudo-intellectual masturbation is wrong, I don't want to be right.

For me, the biggest reason that suckfest of a movie is a black sucking hole of suck is that, you know, the Beatles' music was about the '60s … IN BRITAIN. Which was actually different than the '60s in the US, seeing as how it involved different people, places, and things that happened. Why would would you set a movie

I loved Boondock Saints, but I thought it was supposed to be Crank-style ridiculous. I didn't know that it was supposed to be taken seriously. I DIDN'T KNOW! *runs sobbing from the room*

I think what's hurt Magnolia for me in retropsect (and I did LOVE it when it first came out) is how PTA's been able to make sustained, insanely driven movies that DON'T blow up into melodrama and/or characters singing along with the music. I feel like there are a few big cop-outs in Magnolia that our new-and-improved

In honor of @avclub-04d524031f29c89d78cae864bd6f0de7:disqus , I'm proposing that all technobabble plot contrivances in these reviews be henceforth be referred to as "bullshit particle fields."

I agree - I am HAPPY to see this kind of preachiness.

My girlfriend tried to introduce me to the series, but I was already familiar with it, so we got married instead. You've gotta lock that down.

Yeah, this. Seasons 1 and 2 are rough in TV terms, but contain some brilliant ideas. Everything after season 6 … I'll go ahead and say "don't bother." It doesn't have any of the elements that made the first run so extraordinary.

I dunno about the other 2, but yeah, Aladdin is HIGHLY problematic. Biggest problem: you can rank the non-blue characters from good to evil based *entirely* on skin tone.
