There's a difference between "flawed" and "not likeable." Most of the cast is deeply flawed, but almost all of them are likeable.

I don't think a movie has to be a financial failure in order to qualify as cult. Tombstone was a reasonably successful film at the box office, but it was hardly a smash hit. Its popularity has held strong for 15+ years because it has "special replay value," one of the criteria that can qualify a movie for cult status…
