"Easily better"?  Haven't seen the Last House remake, but The Crazies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Night of the Living Dead are all fucking fantastic and unique in their original forms.  Their remakes could all be the same slick, rote exercise.  I guess some people really like that movie.

Why do they do this?  The defining element of comic book translations' success has been that they make it like the comic.  So they cut the character's title in half and take away his mask and beard.  I'd guess a short life for it regardless of story quality, but on CW it could last for a decade regardless.
