I didn't really have many problems with Across the Universe as a thing I watched over the course of two days (why was it SO LONG?), but I think that's mostly because I think Jim Sturgess is extremely beautiful and I wasn't paying attention to anything else.

This may be completely unrelated to why you read comic collections too fast, but one reason that I don't read many comics is that I'm way more familiar with just plain books without pictures, so I zoom through comics and only read the dialogue instead of looking at the art, and so miss at least half of the impact of

Calling it "Law & Order: The Mothership" gives me a sudden longing for a lawyer show in space.  And/or inspiration, I'm not sure which, exactly.

Yeah, in the first scene where "Senator Amidala's" ship is blown up, I was shocked by how godawful the CGI looked.  It's always strange to be reminded of what digital effects looked like before what we have now.  I assume this will be true for comparing effects now and ten years from now, too.

For some reason I can't sign in to Disqus on my [i]phone [4].  I've tried posting comments and everything works-ish but then I can't log in.  It's seriously strange.  Also after this week I'll probably have very little time to be messing around on a phone.

Aw, thanks.  I'm seriously pretty disappointed.

It took me a little while to warm up to Arrested Development on initially watching it (on DVD years after it was cancelled), but once it gets going it's unstoppable.

Maybe Family Guy is killing the "killing the joke dead" thing dead, so if they do it enough times it'll become funny again (I have no idea, I've barely watched Family Guy since the first season after its return).

SPOILERS:
Yeah, when you're directly stealing lines AND SCENES from previous films, you've crossed the line into remake territory.

I was at work in the wilderness all weekend so I didn't get much pop culture.  I did watch Attack of the Clones on tv, which was the first time I'd seen it since it was originally released, and I can see why.

@avclub-500e75a036dc2d7d2fec5da1b71d36cc:disqus  Like all Saskies I suspect we're no more than three degrees removed.  And Regina is indeed super boring.

@avclub-500e75a036dc2d7d2fec5da1b71d36cc:disqus  I doubt it as well, I'm more "urban" Sask.

Wait a second, there's someone else from Saskatchewan on here?!

I think Pike sort of gets to this in the movie, but isn't stopping the eruption of the volcano already breaking the Prime Directive?  Like, in a huge way?

@avclub-e3019767b1b23f82883c9850356b71d6:disqus  I disagree about any such "looming spectre of Khan."  The Enterprise randomly finds the Botany Bay adrift in space early in its five year mission.  With a new timeline, there's an excellent chance that no one would ever find the Botany Bay, or that it would be found

I am anti-white people dreads too.  I just saw some random stranger's wedding photos on facebook where the groom had dreads and was reminded that it's just impossible to take anyone who has them seriously.

Yes exactly!

Every few years I end up in a stand-off with fashion because I don't like/don't know how to wear whatever's current.  The last year or so I've gradually realized that I'm in this situation again.

Not to give this movie a pass or anything, but I think there is at least one  pretty sensible way that statement might make sense:

That sounds fairly reasonable, then.
