@disqus_yDKeT2OtxO:disqus is right.
Black Science is probably the Image debut I'm most excited for. Hopefully Remender gets back his weird scifi mojo with this.
Is it good? I avoided it like the plague (HA! JOKE!) because I heard it uses fantasy/RPG tropes like crazy. And if there is one nerdy activity I cannot abide, it is the RPG.
Recent interviews with Waid and comments from Samnee make it seem like the renumbering is due to a drastic change in Matt's life as well as DD's 50th anniversary in 2014.
Sounds like you had a good week!
Darwyn Cooke failed to deliver on Minutemen? I thought about reading it since I love his Parker work, but avoided the Before Watchmen stuff on "these are superfluous" grounds. What struck you as off?
Didn't read Pretty Deadly. Decided to wait for reviews. The reviews I've read make it sound like something I wouldn't really be into, though I love Emma Rios' art. I'll check it out whenever the first issue is free on Comixology.
WHAT DID EVERYONE READ THIS WEEK?
GREAT JOB!
Kree/Skrull is worth it mainly for the Neal Adams art. GOD that man could draw in his prime.
I think his Venom would be much stronger if it didn't follow Remender's excellent run on the title. Many times Bunn takes things Remender dealt with delicately and mangles them. For instance, Remender often had Flash Thompson—a former quarterback—refer to situations using football terms; one of Bunn's early issues…
Are you liking Cullen Bunn at Marvel? He's really not doing it for me on Venom.
Ah! Didn't realize this conversation took place in 2007; I thought his Kamandi was meant to be one of the New 52, in which case the tonedeafness of DC executives is just the order of the day.
"Year 100" might have to be another NYCC purchase this weekend.
Nice, dude. How are you reading it? I've been eyeing up the EC Comics horror hardcovers for years now and still haven't pulled the trigger. I did get "Came the Dawn" recently, though, which collects the work of Wally Wood at EC; I always prefer volumes focused around particular artists to volumes focusing on themes or…
When I still bought floppies, NYCC was strictly for filling in back issue gaps. 90s Green Lantern, Iron Man volume 1, and Chuck Dixon Robin were my focus!
Anybody going to NYCC this weekend? I'm going Sunday and will probably be hitting up the First Second booth to get Battling Boy. Any other recent OGNs you'd recommend? I've had my eye on American Barbarians and My Friend Dahmer.
Anybody read Afterlife with Archie yet? Francavilla's involvement intrigues me and made me think Sava would be covering it this week.
What'd everybody read this week?
