There was a photo once in Premiere magazine (I think) of Caan sitting on the tollbooth curb smoking a cigarette, already with all the bulletholes in him. It was the greatest Godfather still ever and I've never seen it again since. Still hunting for it on the interwebs.

Obviously I don't know how much is true but all the interesting stuff is from the 60s and one can only surmise Todd Glass got all that stuff from interviewing Wilson. actually since he already wrote his autobiography and I read it, I can tell you you're spot on about the 70s. 

The book is actually pretty good. Effectively gets into a Cronenburg area of creepiness. I know it's hard to believe. It's one thing to consider the throbbing pie of evil in your minds eye, but looking at an actual throbbing pie special effect…it's just ridiculous.

It was definitely proffered to kids it the mid-70s when it became popular. It seems like an alternate definition of young literature could be anything that appeared in the Scholastic Books flyer. I'm pretty sure that's how I got my copy as a kid.
