…he would be the best supervillain ever and I would sign up to be a henchwoman immediately.

He's so smart and generous it makes my brain melt.
The feelings about the writing were "ok, that was a solid B, B+." The feelings about the art were "OH GOD KILL IT WITH FIRE HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?"
Just want to start off by saying I'm using the language that Walker himself used in our interview (http://www.avclub.com/artic…
Wimberly really is a great talent. My first exposure to his work was a piece he did for the Nib: https://thenib.com/lighten-…
I didn't take it as an attack or anything, I just think you and I have a fundamental disagreement about reviewing single issues. Is it easier to review a trade or a GN? Sure, the sheer difference in length gives you a lot more to get your teeth into. But it's possible to review a song without reviewing the album,…
I had a lot of strong feelings about Cyborg #1. Hell, I had a lot of strong feelings about Red Hood & Arsenal #2, but I didn't enjoy it because of some criminally weak art, so I chose to review Cyborg instead. Opting to focus on something that one enjoys doesn't negate the strength of one's opinion.
"…reviews here are always especially lenient." Except for Tim's review of the Sculptor, my review of Annihilator or Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, just off the top of my head. A review of something we like doesn't mean we're lenient, it means we liked it.
I dropped Teen Titans after the second #1, but up until that point there was no crossover between the two, particularly because Gar wasn't even in the team. From the solicits, Vic hasn't appeared in the new run of TT either, which is odd since huge chunks of the first arc centered around S.T.A.R. Labs. Looks like…
He did Ghost Racers and an upcoming Secret Journal: Secret Love issue featuring Robbie Reyes and Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) dating, but as far as the solicitations say that's it for him and Marvel.
Felipe Smith did a great run on Ghost Rider over at Marvel, but it wrapped up before Secret Wars started. After three Secret Wars tie in books, I believe their relationship is over. Honestly, he's the only other black writer that I know about at any of the Big Three, but I could absolutely be missing someone.
Have you read The Yiddish Policeman's Union? Really great, somewhat pulpy novel by Michael Chabon that explores the ways that (some parts of) the Jewish community and (some parts of) the Native American community have intersecting experiences. Plus murder. ;)
I want to hug this comment. And then high five the fuck out of it because YES, THIS!
Dick and Roy was my first "must read" friendship in comics, so I was indignant when RHATO started off with reconning their relationship, but I'm in the same boat now. Jason needs help lightening up and Roy needs something to take care of.
I'm in total agreement with you, actually. There were long stretches of RHATO that I really liked, and while I preferred some of Tynion's work, Lobdell has a really great handle on the whole "loser superhero" subgenre, from the '90s perspective. Slightly greasy, not quite competent, morally ambiguous heroes are his…
I kept singing "I'm a shark" under my breath for days after rereading Sword of Atlantis.
I'm a sucker for Roy Harper and will follow any book he ends up in…but I really enjoyed RH&A, more than I enjoyed big chunks of RHATO, and according to my friends I was the only one reading that.
I'm going to admit that Court of Owls was the only thing he wrote that I didn't enjoy and that's because I don't think Snyder handles Grayson well. That fucking tooth made me lose my shit. There's no way that Bruce him perfectly for that tooth to pop out and it's never popped out before.
You can contact several stores and have them ship them to you monthly just like a magazine. I know Graham Crackers in Chicago does it.
Yeah, I really have enjoyed the way that Snyder balances all of the facets of the character. He may not be the Batman of the past, but this is a character with decades of history…no one writes him exactly the same way.
