I've been writing about Under the Dome for another site, and I've decided that Big Jim is the secret hero of the show. To vulgarly quote myself: "between his drug decriminalization efforts and his common sense gun control initiative, the guy is becoming a regular Dennis Kucinich."

Be fair, this is at least thoughtful contrarianism. I'd even go so far as to agree with him on Skyler; she was really underserved by the first few seasons, and her sudden reconnection with Walt is one of the most puzzling elements of the current season. It's okay for a show to be brilliant, possibly even the best of

Plus George Martin's last string arrangement, no less. The LOVE version is definitely my favorite; the original just isn't the same for me without the extra verse.

This is strictly for mega-nerds, but I've always found the Anthology version of "Ain't She Sweet" to be incredibly poignant. For some backstory, "Ain't She Sweet" was one of the first times John Lennon got to sing lead on a record, back in the Tony Sheridan/Beat Brothers days. You can hear it here: http://www.youtube.c

It's tough to say with any authority what's humorous or why it should be, but I definitely laughed at the broken neck joke—they're trying to have a party, she's talking about suicide by hanging, the incongruity is darkly funny. I thought Blanchett toed the line between tragic and comic absolutely perfectly.

Shit, that's probably true. This is the type of emotionally wrought material that big screen Superman needs.

    haha "a gun," fixed it.

I was recently listening to a Fresh Air interview with him, and he's also made it a general policy to never take a role where he holds a gun—he's made a couple of exceptions of course, but has consciously avoided ever being *that* kind of leading man. I know that anyone engaged with pop culture almost *has* to

didn't even really rhyme with "lucky" as he used it, if you want to nitpick.

It's also a pretty terrible western, has hardly any songs in it for a musical, and doesn't taste particularly good when paired with merlot.

    haha thanks!

This one, "Ted," is my legacy A.V. Club account; I post using my twitter handle @tedkindig in other disqus boards now and then. Why do you ask?

    Thanks!

Fun Story: I went to Germany with a friend a year or two ago, and when we turned on the TV in the hostel, *literally* the first thing we saw, no channel-surfing or anything, was a horse castration.

Yeah, I was bracing for something way sillier. North West is an awesome name.

For those interested, I've made Josh Modell's requested Benny Hill/LeonardCohen/Joy Division funeral mashup, because it sounded interesting: https://soundcloud.com/ted-…

The book is quite literally the story of how a handful of children, whose offenses range from general unpleasantness to habitual gum-chewing, were systematically subjected to life-threatening peril and body horror. The terror is in the text.

No, he already said it was the indie musical "Once."

I'm starting to think I like movies more than you guys.

I think maybe some people in the comments are taking this feature a little too seriously. I generally like the song, but I laughed all the way through the article because explaining golden showers to your ten year old is funny.
